Trauma Work

Treating mental health conditions and addictions is not a one-size-fits-all endeavor. Each person struggling with the complex symptoms of psychiatric disorders requires personalized attention to address the root issues that can often be traced back to childhood. By identifying the underlying trauma or events that may have contributed to the disorder, treatment can be successful and long-lasting. Addictions, in particular, are symptoms of a more significant issue and if that problem is not understood and dealt with, it can significantly undermine a successful recovery.

Often once-a-week outpatient therapy is insufficient to deal with depression, anxiety and compulsive behavior. Residential treatment helps the client to attain some control, but once they are back to daily stresses, relapses come. The solution is partial hospitalization for a longer period of time to deal with deeper issues that are at the core of the symptoms. Each person’s treatment needs to be structured individually. We have eight therapists with different talents that work as an integrated team. We work with deeper issues in psychotherapy, getting to the root of addiction and dealing with psychiatric symptoms, intimacy, couples, families and relationships.

Recovery from addiction is a long journey, often driven without a map. This mission requires a team of therapists and a recovery community to help individuals begin and maintain a healthy path. For food addictions, a competent dietician, psychiatrist, primary therapist, expressive therapist and life coach are often required. For chemical dependency, the addition of a 12-step sponsor to the therapy team is critical for successful, long-term sobriety.

Choices in Treatment Programs

As you work through the underlying issues of a mental disorder, a living environment that encourages supervised recovery and accountability is essential for successful treatment. At Harmony Place Monterey, we offer three different program structures to meet the needs of our clients:

Intensive Outpatient Programs

An intensive outpatient program or IOP is an effective way to focus on your mental health or addiction treatment without sacrificing your ability to maintain outside obligations. The program consists of three-hour sessions, four days per week, which cover a gamut of topics to address all your needs and underlying issues. Harmony Place Monterey features transitional living in addition to our IOP, offering an alternative to inpatient treatment that provides structure during treatment that is often necessary for success.

Partial Hospitalization Programs

Partial hospitalization programs or PHPs offer a step up in outpatient treatment over IOPs, providing a higher level of care with longer, more frequent treatment. Clients are involved in sessions six hours a day, five days a week, which allow them to explore their disorder and the underlying issues on an even deeper level. This can be an effective transition from inpatient treatment as well as a more affordable option for clients who are struggling or out of control and need additional care.

Transitional Living Housing

Harmony Place Monterey offers a new model in transitional living, with a transitional living group home that provide clients a safe place to work through their issues while transitioning back to their daily lives. This oceanside house offers a tranquil backdrop for those in both our IOP and PHP, as well as the support some clients need as they undergo treatment. This model also allows clients to form relationships with others dealing with similar issues, reminding them they are not alone and creating a support network both during treatment and after.

Individualized Care

No matter which treatment program you choose at Harmony Place Monterey, you can rest assured it will be structured to your individual needs. We have eight therapists with different talents working as a small integrated team, as well as an occupational therapist and life coach to help clients achieve success in their real-world transitions. We work with deeper issues in psychotherapy, getting to the root of addiction and dealing with issues of relationship, intimacy, codependence and attachment.

Regardless of which program you choose, here at Harmony Place Monterey you will be given the support, hope and encouragement necessary to guide you through the stressors, triggers and temptations of life outside with our trauma and PTSD treatment.
